Remember, Remember The Fifth Of November

He did it. We did it. I did it. You did it. Whatever your pronoun of choice, it was an historic night. Talk about it in terms of progress (i.e. civil rights), revival (of JFK & MLK's political humanism), or change. Just talk about it.

Among the infinite great moments was one when, admittedly intoxicated, I looked at the clock and its the green LED "12:03" starting right back at me. I realized that, in the infancy of this November 5th, history was being made. The event shares little else with the Gunpowder Plot, other than a reminder of how potent republicanism can be when people realize their place in it. Just one of the many cool things about the last twenty-four hours.

Shout-out to the Reverend Jackson, too. Watching Martin's friend cry silent, reverent tears while Obama smiled on the Grant Park crowd was an absolute goosebumps moment. Sure, he gets on his high horse sometimes, but in that moment, he was an entirely sympathetic character.

Thought McCain's speech was quite good, and Palin's numbed "I've been thinking about 2012 for the last two months" look was golden. But obviously, as you know he's been doing for the last two months, if in private, Barack had prepared something special. When big homie started talking about what made this a quintessential American moment, it was just bananas.

And the weirdest part was the reaction. For the first time in my life, it felt like somebody won the election, instead of somebody losing it. That's complete biased, from the side of the victors, but it was like somebody's squad had just won the Super Bowl. Daps and hugs gave way to generally celebratory antics. The night felt like history.

Tell him I'm doin' fine, Obama for mankind/
We ready for damn change, so y'all let the man shine.
